Vision board journaling in progress with hand-drawn illustrations and goal-setting prompts

So in my last post, I covered what vision boards are and how to use them to create the life you want. Awesome!

Well, here's the thing nobody tells you. Before you can create a vision board that works, you need to know what you're visualizing. Like, really know.

Not just "I want to be happy" or "I want more money." You might find a penny today, and that technically means you have more money. My guess is that’s not going to cut it.

You need the specifics of what you’re going after, and that requires a bit of digging.

That's why I'm a huge believer in vision board journaling. It's the step that helps you get clear on what you want. Then when you do create your board, it's more like a roadmap.

So grab a notebook, find a quiet spot, and let's see how to get starting vision board journaling.

Vision Board Journal Prompts to Get You Started

Ready to start thinking big? Pick one of these prompts and write for at least five minutes. Really allow yourself to explore without holding anything back.

Go deeper with these. They'll help you connect with your bigger "why" and the mark you want to leave.

What would my younger self be proud of me for doing?

What legacy do I want to leave behind?

Who do I want to become in the next chapter of my life?

How to Use These Prompts

Look, I’m sure it's tempting to just read through the list, nod along, and move on with your day. But if you really want that laser-kind-of-focus on your future self, you’ve got to get it written down.

Here's what I recommend. Pick a prompt, set a timer for five minutes and go. Some days you’ll write a paragraph, other days you’ll fill three pages.

The length doesn’t matter! What matters is that giving yourself permission to want things. To imagine a life that excites you and think bigger than your current circumstances.

And the more you do this, the clearer your vision becomes. You’ll start to see patterns and notice what lights you up versus what you think you're supposed to want.

Tools That Make Vision Board Journaling Easier

You don't need much to get started, but a few simple tools can make the process smoother.

I love a journal that lays flat. It makes writing so much easier when you're not wrestling with the pages. A good pen helps a lot. Find one that’s smooth and feels good in your hand.

If you're more digital, then this app might be a perfect fit. It has a built-in journal feature that's perfect for vision planning. You can write from anywhere, organize your thoughts by category, and revisit your entries anytime.

And don't stress about having the perfect setup. Simply find a spot where you can think clearly. It can be your couch, your kitchen table, a corner coffee shop, pretty much anywhere works.
