So last time I talked about SMART goals and how to come up with the right goals. But if you missed that post, go check it out because I’m adding to it.)
When it comes to goals, here’s a common question.
“Ok, so I wrote the goal... now what?”
Totally fair question!
Because writing the goal is step one, but there's so much to the strategies that successful women are using right now to achieve these goals.
I like getting into this stuff because it's the difference between a goal that’s wishful thinking and one that changes your day. And perhaps your bank account... And maybe your career....
So buckle up, because I found five trends that are really smart (haha, pun absolutely intended), and I think you're going to want to steal at least two of them before you finish reading.
Trend #1: Tying Your Goals to an Emotional Anchor
This is a big one in the goal-setting world, and it makes so much sense once you hear it.
A lot of us have been writing goals based on outcomes alone. Lose 15 pounds. Save $5,000. Get a promotion.
They’re not bad goals or anything. But they don't give you a reason to keep going on a tough day when you're tired and your motivation is MIA.
Like days when I want to eat a bowl of cheese puffs instead of going for a walk…
The trend now is adding an emotional "why" to every goal you set. Before you write anything down, ask yourself...
What will life look and feel like when I accomplish this?
Who benefits?
What does it mean to me?
Here's an example. Instead of "exercise 4 times a week," try this: "Move my body 4 times a week because I want to feel strong in my 40s." That second version has something to fight for.
A SMART goal is only powerful if it reflects your reality and priorities. And your priorities are emotional (not only logical).
We all know the basics. What we’re missing is how to fully see them through.
Trend #2: Using AI and Apps to Give You a Boost
Your phone can basically be your goal coach now! And you don't have to be a tech person to use it.
Goal-setting apps are only going to keep getting smarter. I mean apps that adjust your plan based on how you're doing (not just some static checklist you made on January 1st and forgot about the following week).
Some apps are already using AI to tweak your challenges, adjust difficulty, even your rewards based on your life. Like health apps that notice you had a rough week and nudge you toward something manageable instead of making you feel like you're already behind.
That's huge!
If you think you’d benefit from a goal-setting app that's has goal cards, a vision board, a journal, habit tracking, even a morning routine builder, then this app might be perfect for you.
Really, there are a bunch of options out there. Gamified ones, super-customizable ones, ones with built-in accountability. The best one is the one that matches how your brain works.
The point is…pick something and start! The gap between setting goals and following through on them almost always comes down to having a system that keeps them in front of your face every single day.

Trend #3: Micro Goals Are the New Big Goals
I’ve made the mistake of trying to overhaul literally everything at once. New rigorous workout, new diet, new morning routine, new side hustle. All in the same month.
Spoiler: I burned out within a few days!
The trend right now is moving away from massive annual goals toward smaller 30 or 90-day accomplishments that are doable.
Pick 1-3 things, nail them, and then pick more. Trying to do everything at once can cause you to shut down completely, and then you're back to the abandoned list under the laundry. Please no!
Keep it simple, keep it real.
Trend #4: Flexible Goals That Move with Your Life
This one is specifically for us. Why? Because we don’t live our lives in a straight line. Well, at least I don’t!
Work gets crazy. Kids get sick. Travel plans change. Emergencies happen. A goal that was perfect in January might make zero sense by March. And that's ok!
The old approach was to white-knuckle it and stay with the original plan no matter what. The new approach lets you be flexible from the jump.
Here's what I'd suggest. Grab your calendar right now and block out a "goal reset date" every 3 months. Treat it like a dentist appointment. (Well, maybe something you'd look forward to more than that.)
Every quarter, sit down for 30 minutes. Look at what you wrote down 3 months ago. Ask yourself…
Is it still relevant?
Has something changed in my life that’s altered my priorities?
Am I avoiding this goal because it's hard... or because it's not mine anymore?
Drop what's no longer needed. Double down on what's working. Add something new if you're up to it.
No need to white-knuckle it out for a year!
Trend #5: Gamifying Your Goals
Believe me, I’m no gamer. In fact I’m terrible at video games!
But some women are turning their planners into role-playing games. They're breaking goals into categories like "Vitality" for fitness and "Insight" for personal growth. Their to-do list becomes a Quest Log. And when they finish a task, they earn "loot" or little rewards they pick for themselves.
It works because when you turn a boring task into something that’s more like a game, you get even more motivation to do it. It's why people can spend three hours on Candy Crush but can't spend a few minutes on meal prep.
No need to go full video game with it, instead try attaching a reward to finishing a certain number of tasks each week. Whatever would be like a treat to you.
And hey, you're not too grown for gold star stickers. I promise!
