If you’ve been around here for a bit, you’ll know that I so enjoy talking about vision boards.
But now I’m taking a different angle. I want to talk about vision boards…not for your dream home, or how much money you want to make, or anything along those lines. The focus of this vision board is how you take care of you, a.k.a. self-care.
We’ll get into the things to include, the aesthetics that’ll make you want to look at your board, and the words that lift you up.
If your board needs an upgrade (or you haven't started one yet), you're going to want to read on.
Self-Care Vision Board
What comes to mind when you think about self-care? Is it bubble baths…or glasses of bubbly? If so, that’s totally fine!
But just know that it’s more than products you can buy at the store. It can also include your early mornings, how you move, how you rest, and time for mindfulness.
Really, that means your self-care vision board should look like your version of a life well-lived. Not someone else's aesthetic on social media.
Look for images, phrases, or symbols that give you the inner tingles, not what you think should inspire you. There’s a difference! I think the best vision boards are the ones that spark emotion and motivation, not pressure.
So whether you're drawn to mornings without alarms and dings…or finally booking that well-deserved trip…or simply having the energy to be there for your family every evening, there's a place for all of it on your board.
Themes for Self-Care Vision Boards
Not sure where to start? Here are several themes to think through. Any one of these is a good starting point. Pick the one (or two) that makes you think “yep, that's definitely me right now.”
"Self-Care First" Boards
This one prioritizes rest, boundaries, and rituals that re-energize you.
Examples: images of morning routines with warm sunlight, solo walks, your favorite reading nook, screen-free evenings, a cup of tea with no one asking you for anything.
If you've been running on empty and your version of self-care is remembering to drink water, this is your board.
"Glow Up" Boards (But Make It Sustainable)
No, glow up doesn’t have to a makeover. Rather, this theme focuses on those subtle, sustainable upgrades to your style, health, and mindset.
I love this one because it's not about dramatic before-and-afters that you see everywhere. Instead, it’s little changes here and there that add up.
Skincare routines you enjoy. Strength training. Morning sunlight on your face. The kind of glow up nobody notices for six months and then suddenly someone asks what's different about you.
"A New Era of Me" Boards
This theme invites change with new routines, environments, and habits that match your next chapter.
This one is gold if you’re in transition. New job…post-breakup…becoming a mom…empty nesting. Or even that nameless feeling that something needs to change, but you’re not sure what yet. Your board can help you figure out the what.
"Current Me / Future Me" Storytelling Boards
It's kind of like putting current-you and future-you on the same board and letting them talk to each other. Some do two sides, some write little letters back and forth. Either way, it turns your board into something that tells the story of you.
I love how personal this one gets. Instead of picking pretty images, you're having a conversation between who you are and who you're becoming. How powerful!

The Aesthetic of Your Self-Care Vision Board
Now on to visuals, because how your board looks matters (it affects how often you look at it…which is the whole point).
Minimalist & Neutrals
Choose a minimalist aesthetic to keep your goals clear and stress low. Use soft beiges, creams, muted greens, and warm browns for backgrounds and frames.
These neutral tones help important images and words stand out. Focus on clean layouts, e.g., a single image per goal, short captions, and plenty of white space.
The “soft success” aesthetic is minimalist, warm tones, and simple collages. Less is more, and your board shouldn't stress you out when you look at it!
Color Stories
Choosing a color story helps your collage look like you thought things through. If you want bold confidence, then use cherry red accents for high-impact.
Or soft pinks, sage green, moody burgundy, dusty rose, warm terracotta. Basically pick whatever colors speak to you and let it run through your entire board.
Polaroid / Film-Style Photos
Vintage-y imagery. Think old-school photo prints, handwritten captions, film grain textures. You’re adding some nostalgia to your board, like flipping through a scrapbook from a life you're creating.
Some Ideas for Your Self-Care Vision Board
Now for the fun part. Choose 3-5 ideas from each area that make you smile the most. The best boards tell a story, and a little focus goes a long way.
Your Body, Your Way
Yoga classes, hiking trails, strength training, healthy meals (that actually look yummy), sleep rituals, hydration goals. Choose this if your goal is to create stronger routines and hone in on your health.
Taking Care of Your Mind
Growth often means doing the inner work. Journaling, digital boundaries, affirmations, morning pages. Visualize the spaces and routines that support a healthy mind.
Rest Without the Guilt
This focus is ideal if your goal is to slow down, reduce stress, and have more balance. Saying no. Protecting your time. Guilt-free naps. Screen-free Sundays. The luxury of doing…absolutely nothing.
Betting on Yourself
Reading goals, online courses, starting a side project, speaking up in meetings, having that hard conversation. This one works well if you want to grow, learn, and challenge yourself.
Your Circle & Your People
This doesn't have to be about romantic love (though it can be). Photos of dinner parties with friends, handwritten notes, game nights, moms' groups, deeper conversations. The kind of connection that fills your tank.
Where You're Headed Next
No, it doesn't have to be a $5,000 international trip. It can be a weekend road trip, a new hiking trail, a solo coffee shop morning in a nearby town. Whatever "adventure" looks like for your life right now, put it on the board.
Affirmations That Work on a Board
A few well-chosen words can anchor your entire board. We’re not trying to compete with Hallmark here, so let them be personal and specific to you.
I am aligned with the best version of me.
I attract opportunities that match my goals.
My daily actions create the results I desire.
Those are great starting points. But my advice is to rewrite them in your own voice. "I'm creating a life I don't need a vacation from” is quite different from something you copied off a template.
TIP: Try to limit your affirmation count. Three to five strong ones scattered across your board is plenty. More than that and you might find that your eyes start to glaze over.
