My guess is you’re here because you’re looking to shake things up a bit. That’s great! And when it comes to ourselves, having fresh self-care ideas keeps our routine from slipping into autopilot.
When we do the same things over and over, even good habits can start to feel stale, and we stop getting the same pick-me up from them.
New ideas bring variety, which keeps things exciting. If you caught the first part of this series, you already know we covered some ideas that make self-care feel effortless.
This second part is where we turn the dial up. These ideas are a little more playful, a little more luxurious, and designed to keep your routine feeling fresh. Think of it as adding flavor to the foundation you’ve already have.
If you haven’t read it yet, it’s worth checking out so you can mix the basics with these upgrades.
Treat Yourself to the Good Stuff
Some self-care is worth the investment. I don’t mean empty your bank account though. It’s just that every once in a while I think it’s ok to treat yourself. It might be high-quality skincare, a luxury wellness retreat, or upgrading your bed to hotel-level comfort.
When you’re able, spending a little more on something that impacts your daily comfort can pay off in ways you feel every single day. It’s a strategic investment in your well-being.
Match Your Self-Care to the Season
Match your self-care with the rhythms of the season. In summer, that could mean outdoor movie nights or beach walks in the morning. In fall, think forest hikes and a hot cup of chai. Yummy! In winter, it could be afternoon tea while wrapped up in your favorite blanket.
Seasonal living keeps your routines from going stale, because each season brings its own textures, scents, and moods to work with.
Keep a “Mindful Successes” Log
At the end of each day (or week), jot down one mindful win where you made a choice that supported you. Maybe you took a long soaking bath instead of your usual in-and-out shower. You cooked a delicious, yet healthy meal, or you said no to something that didn’t serve you.
Logging these activities grows your awareness of what’s working in your self-care and helps you see progress to keep going.
Keep a Running ‘Yes’ List
Keep a running list of things you’ve always wanted to try, no matter how far-fetched. Always wanted to try salsa classes? Write it down. Glass-blowing? Awesome. Then, commit to scheduling at least one every month.
Don’t be hard on yourself if you can’t check everything single thing off the list. It’s not a bucket list. Rather it’s a way to regularly feed your sense of curiosity and adventure.
I really hope you give this one a try, it’s amazing how much saying “yes” can add to your life.

Add Little Luxuries to Your Week
Self-care can be as simple as sprinkling joy into your everyday life. That might mean buying your favorite pastry on a random Wednesday, ordering fresh flowers for your desk, or wearing your favorite perfume just for yourself.
These small items can create a sense of luxury that you deserve, even on ordinary days.
Rest, Rest, Then Rest Some More
Not all rest is created equal. Mindless downtime (like piddling on your phone) doesn’t necessarily leave you feeling refreshed. Experiment until you find rest that genuinely recharges you. Perhaps you need a midday nap, or head to bed 30 minutes earlier. Do whatever you can to get quality rest.
I urge you to protect this kind of rest like you would any other important appointment.
Shush Your Mind
Sometimes self-care means taking something away, rather than adding something in. This one is about taking away the noise. You can do this through meditation, guided breathwork, or simply sitting in silence for a few minutes. These practices help you respond to life with instead of reacting on autopilot.
If full-blown meditation is intimidating, try sitting a few with your eyes closed. Even one minute can have benefits, and you can add on from there.
Build an Energy Menu
Create a simple menu you can pick from based on how much time or energy you have. Make three columns with varying amounts of time (e.g., 5 minutes, 15 minutes, and 30-60 minutes). Fill each column with quick options that work for you, like step outside and breathe, stretch your neck and shoulders, take a screen break and drink water, journal one page, or take a slow walk.
Keep this list on your phone and on your fridge. When you need a boost, choose one item. That one choice can turn the whole day.
